The organizations CTOverseas and Mending Kids brought surgical specialists to the Instituto Nacional de Salud del Nino in the Peruvian Lima to operate on 18 children.

At the children's hospital in Lima 18 children finally received the necessary surgical intervention after a long time of waiting. Pediatric surgeons arrived in the Peruvian capital on behalf of two organizations: CTOverseas and Mending Kids. Their aim:  to carry out urgently needed interventions at the Children's Hospital Instituto Nacional de Salud del Nino. Among others, Prof. Dr. med Martin Lacher, Director of the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Leipzig, was one of the international experts.

The surgical team treated some complicated cases of anorectal malformations, including cloacal malformations, in which the rectum, vagina, and urethra come together in a single common channel – nowadays one of the biggest technical challenges in pediatric surgery. Overall, the team treated 18 complex surgical cases and enabled the children to start into a livable future. Around 50 participants from Peru and other Latin American countries were able to follow the operations via live transmission and thus continue their education. They also benefited from the know-how of the specialists in pediatric surgery in workshops "De Malformaciones Ano Rectales Enfermedad De Hirschsprung" ("About the anorectal malformations of Hirschsprung"). This project is an example of acute help and therapy of individuals as well as education of local surgeons.

"Hi CTO! Welcome to Peru! My little niece will finally be operated on thanks to your mission in Lima. God bless you all. "
